Maintain and export Unbalanced entities hierarchy in Board

Hi all,

I'm posting an idea to find a solution to 2 limitations related to the use of unbalanced entities.

1. The relationships in an unbalanced entity cannot be maintained by a normal user.
Today the only possibility is to do so by a data reader (so, from a source system) or through the data model section (so, only for developers).
This is a major limitation if we want flexibility on the management of hierarchies.

2. The hierarchy within an unbalanced entity cannot be exported

Today if I want to export an unbalanced entity with the child/parent table format, it is not possible, neither in a dataview nor in a dataset.

Use case for a solution to both problems: we would like to provide the possibility to a key user to maintain an unbalanced hierarchy in Board, and then export it to an external system (through a dataset-to-SQL export for example) for data sharing.

Any workaround idea is welcome, but a native solution would be preferred… :)

I join the vote for allowing users to modify unbalanced hierarchies.

For the export question: If you export a single entity using a procedure, you get the parent / child relationship as a text / csv file. (Board 12.6 and certainly also Board 14).

Hi @Walter Andreß , thanks for the export tip, I never use the export entity alone (I usually export full trees) so I did not notice. It's a start, although the ability to display the parent of an item in a layout (and therefore in a dataset export or a bulk insert to SQL) is definitely missing.
