About the Solution:

This simple example gives an idea on how to use Visibility feature of objects to display a set of help textboxes around your BOARD application.

Solution info

The solution makes use of:

  • a "tech" entity, called Help Switch, with 2 members: On and Off
  • a cube called HELP FLAG ON dimensioned by the Help Switch entity.
  • a set of labels with a configured layout on the different screens
  • a procedure to switch help labels on and off, linked to a button with a dynamic layout that changes based on if help is displayed or not.

Takeaways/ Hints for other community Members:

This is an interesting use of the visibility features, very useful when deploying a solution to a wide number of users across different location, as it gives an immediate help on how to use / navigate an application and saves a lot of time in terms of user guides / documentation etc.

It is important to note that also works perfectly with capsule translation, (which is available, from version 10.1.3, also on HTML client), so help labels can be localized very easily.

Also, avoid creating too many help labels as it might impact the performance of screen rendering, especially on a screen already filled with objects (in the attached application, the first report for example).

Database / Capsule attached. Please set ADMIN as Database Security Profile for the LSCR.hbmp database
The application can be opened with BOARD 10.1.2 or higher
