Runaway abandoned user jobs crashing Board server
Robert Latorre
Hi, running on 10.6, on premises.
Occasionally, one of our Board users will make changes to a data view for analysis the is too complex for Board to return results. They cancel out of the browser screen, but the job continues to run on the server.
That long running job affects performance, and over a short time begins to prevent all users from getting results from Board. It has even caused our nightly refresh process to not complete on a few nights.
I checked with Board support to see if there was a setting to automatically cancel long running user requests and there isn't.
Short of monitoring the "Running Tasks" admin screen all day, is there another way to get alerted if an abandoned user request is using up all system resources?
I love Board! but I am missing some of the standard admin capabilities available in other platforms.

Hi Robert, when I worked as consultant, I had this problem on some customer:
the tricks I adopted was to stop & start Board once at day, depending obviously
on db preload time or h24 Board availability.

Hi Gianni, that will definitely work for the nightly refresh, thank you for the suggestion.

Hi, my BoardServer is a VM in a Vmware installation;
so I've created (not just for the BoardServer) a specific warning for the CPU of all VMs running,
that send me an e-mail when it reaches more than 90% of usage
(better than monitoring Running Task all day)
Maybe it can help you
