Drillable Headcount Report - don't show grand total or column total

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before, i'm struggling to find an answer in previous questions.

I would like to build a drillable headcount report by week, showing both headcount and FTE KPIs by department.  I would like to show subtotals as you drill down the types of headcount and into the department, so i have enabled "DownTotals".

However, I do not want to display "Grand Total"- as adding together Headcount and FTE gives a nonsense number.  I also do not want to display a "Total" column, as adding together 3 weeks of headcount also gives a nonsense number.

I have been going around in circles trying to apply rules and Nexel formulae but haven't been able to get the result I want.

Is what I'm trying to achieve possible with BOARD? Any help would be really appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Jo.

    Hi @Joanna Kelly,

whether the row totals are displayed or not can be set in the block configuration of the DataViews' layout, like here:

Just tick it off. The same is available in the Windows client, as well.
The easiest way to get rid of the grand total would be to apply a block format to the cells by setting foreground and background colours to the same RGB values.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,
    Helmut

    Hi,

Helmut - thank you for the reply.  The row totals check box was exactly what I was looking for!

I'm not sure about removing the grand totals by colouring them in!  It doesn't seem like a robust technical solution? Are there any other possible solutions?

    Thanks,

    Jo.

    Hi Jo,

I really meant the easiest way ;-)
A more robust solution would be to not use FTE and HC on the y-axis, but display the cubes' data "by detail"--that would give you two columns per week in which the sum will be according to the displayed KPI; for as long as you display both KPI values by y-axis (in the rows), you'll always be comparing apples to pears--which is not what you want. And to sum them up would be the same as summing USD and AUD--nonsense, as you've described it ;-)
The "detail by"-option is available on the block configuration of your DataView, as well (see the references tab).

    Kind Regards,
    Helmut

    Hi Helmut,

    Thanks again for your reply.

From the solution that you're describing, should I be able to have a column for each week, and then that column is sub-divided into Headcount or FTE?

I'm only able to show a column for FTE or Headcount - which appears to be all the weeks in my "select" summed together?

    Apologies!

    Hi Jo,

still, you'd need the week as a dimension on your columns, then you'll get two columns per week displaying FTE and HC ;-)
Let me know if this helps.

    Kind Regards,
    Helmut

    Hi Helmut,

Thanks for the tip.  I don't think that separate columns is going to meet the business requirement.

I think we will have a screen with a static view of the data, with no subtotals, and a separate drillable screen with a selector for Headcount or FTE.
