Question on clearing cubes

Are you able to explain this further to me? I guess, if there is another month of sales activity, will clearing the cube not be necessary? Trying to understand when it is necessary or not to clear the cube. And, how do we clear the cube again? I'm still in Level 200 training.

As you see, the answer says, …for the same combination.. So, if it's another month's sales activity, the combinations are not the same. Therefore, there is no need to clear the cube. But in the L200 module, the combinations (structure and real data) are the same for cubes, so if it is not cleared, it will keep on adding the values to the same infocubes.

In L200, cubes are cleared in the steps within the Procedures.

• When you do NOT need to clear a cube:
  • Adding new monthly sales activity normally appends data. If you are simply loading new periods (months) into the cube, there is no need to clear it.
  • This is the standard process for ongoing business activity.
• When you DO need to clear a cube:
  • If you are reloading the same period(s) (e.g., reloading January after discovering an error), you typically clear the cube for that period first to avoid duplicating or compounding data.
  • If you are performing a full reload of the cube (all history), then a full cube clear is often done first.
• How to clear a cube:
  • In Design Mode, locate the cube, right-click → Clear Cube.
  • Alternatively, in a Procedure, you can add an action step: Clear Cube (either full cube or filtered by entity/time slice).
  • The filtered clear is often recommended so you only wipe the period or slice you intend to reload.
