Dataview Axes Vertical Alignment Shows All Empty Rows
Hi Community,
I have encountered a peculiar behaviour of Dataview (align Vertically) and would love to get some feedback from any Board experts here.
I have a Dataview which I changed Align from Horizontally to Vertically, with Show All unchecked on both By Row and By Column. The Dataview (when aligned Horizontally), will not show the rows which all cells are empty. However, the Dataview (when aligned vertically), shows all rows even when the whole rows are empty.
1) Configuration: Align Horizontally. Only Products with data will appear. Products with no data are not shown.
2) Configuration: Align Vertically. Even Products with no data are shown.
3) Is this a known behaviour of a Dataview when aligned vertically?
4) I have tried the following methods to hide the Products with empty data but to no avail.
- Cube: Sales By Month, which I want to show in my report.
- Cube: Sales By Year, to sum up monthly sales by FY.
- Column Algorithm: Flag Products with 0 Sales in Whole Year. "1" if Sales by Year is 0. "0" if Sales by Year is not 0.
- Columns with no sales for the entire FY will be flagged "1".
- Apply Filter using the Column Algorithm to filter away all products with 0 sales in FY.
- But I am prompted with the following error.
Hence, could anyone be kind enough to share their experience in using dataview (align vertically), or any tips on how to circumvent this issue?
Thank you in advance!

Dear Derek Koh,
thanks for your request.
For general Vertically alligned DataViews or layout Elements are limited in kind of functions to the horizontal ones.
Like you noticed they are based to the cube itself. Each Row Dimension is shown in corelation to each not hidden Layout Block.
For general Vertical DataViews are also not drillable, you are only able to switch column width manually, ...
To get your request working the only possible solution is selecting only the products with values for your screen. Otherwise you will see the empty lines.
Hope it helps

Hi Alexander,
Thank you so much for your swift reply! It was really helpful.
Yes, I did realize that the Vertically Aligned Dataviews really do have some limitations. Perhaps it may be due to it not being an essential type of dataview.
Nonetheless, thank you once again for your input!
