Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation
Hi All,
I tried to open cubes view, but i got this error messange. Do you have any suggestion to fix this issue? Note: It happens after i remove a redundant relationship and entity. The entity is indirectly used in some infocubes.
exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Thank you very much

It looks like i remove the relationship and entity at the same time. Then it should remove all infocubes that use this entity. But, this entity is indirectly used in some cubes, then if we remove the relationship, this entity will not be used by any cube, then no cube is removed. But I got the error. I dont understand the behaviour in this case. I think i need to use database backup to recover the database.

Hello William Le. I have had such errors in the past but have managed to 'blunder' my way through to a solution. Consequently, I have never noted what actually causes them. I have tried to delete an entity, cube and relationship and none have resolved to this error. Your question is a good one and I would like to actually analyse the issue to identify a solution but as there are many ways to cause this error, can you remember exactly how you caused it?
If you can let me know, I'll look into it for both us and the community at large.

Hi William Le and Paul Wyatt - Avison Young UK. I have got the same error today but I have not made any structural changes to my database. I have a number of copies of the BOARD directory for different purposes
And I swap back and forth by changiog the BOARD path in server configuration,
all I have done is close down the BOARD client, change the path as I have done many times before and reopen again, however now I can't open any database in any of the paths, due to this error occuring.
Obviously not related to the scenerio as first posted but this error message would appear to be common to multiple issues. Interested to hear of any ways that can be tried to resolve as I am currently unable to use BOARD at all.1 -
Hi Adam Elvin. Accepting that there are many things that will result in errors such as the invocation one, the commonest reasons that I've encountered errors of this nature has been as follows:
1. Entity or Cube removed but reference remains in datareader resulting in error on running reader. Usually spotted through error on re-running dataload process and having a message in bottom right of screen - hard to see on a 27" UHD monitor.
2. Screen left open when database work was carried which deleted/altered an entity or cube used in a dataview/chart object. This also resulted in a corrupt capsule in which it was impossible to delete said screen. I had to re-name the screen 'DO NOT USE' and rebuild the screen. The capsule is still carrying this corrupted screen.
I'm not claiming that the 2 points above are what has happened to you, just that you might want to consider what changes you've done and maybe check for messages.

I have seen this error arise when I’m making several changes to cubes and relationships. When I run the Unload all databases command, it seems to fix things for me. Hopefully, that works for you too. Good luck.

Hi Paul Wyatt - Avison Young UK. It seems for me there was a special circumstance. I had been having a 'tidy up' of applications and installs on my machine, namely SQL server, I was removing things in order to prepare a clean install of a new version of SQL 2016. Whilst I was carefull to only remove items pertaining to SQL server it seems that one of the components was nesceesary as it contained Adomd, (un beknown to me!). I needed too uninstall all the BOARD components, ensure I had installed all the pre requisites from the following site
BOARD Installation Prerequisites
and then re install all BOARD. this fixed my problem.

Adam Elvin, that's a great outcome and thanks for sharing it. You've linked the error to a domestic task that we, as analysts, are constantly involved with - housekeeping. As such, we are all capable of falling foul of this error at some point.
I for one would never have considered the re-installing of BOARD to rectify the error; instead, I would have completed a ticket and awaited the assistance of a superhero from BOARD SUPPORT - my own beingVasili Aravidis. After reading your response and learning that it resolved the issue, and after all else had failed, I would now have no concerns with carrying out a re-install at an opportune moment.

Hi,
Same as Bob Gill, usually an unload / reload works. I think this is because some metadata is deleted from disk but still present in memory, therefore this error code.

Hi,
One of the scenarios in which this error was showing was when trying to create a backup from the utilities tab. The reason for the error in this situation was due to disk space being full on the server. Deleting a couple of old backup copies to free up space helped in running the backup process successfully.

Hi
I also come across this message without having done any structural change either. I only get it when I try to select a capsule: the client seems to freeze for a moment, then I get the message. On clicking on Ok, it proposes me to select a capsule anyway, but the screen freezes for good when I try to select one.
I tried to re-install the client but it does not get any better.
The freeze of the screen is on one environment only (production of course). So far no luck in resolving the problem.

Hi all,
Some of our users experience the same error with the drill through functionality. I personally have no problems running it. Does anyone have an idea what is going on?
Thanks!
Rick
