Return zero values in First Value and Last Value functions

The First Value and Last Value functions return the first/last non zero value.

I suggest the introduction of two functions that return the first/last value even if it is zero.

The goal is to have the first/last value of the selected period regardless if it is zero or not.

E.g.: when looking at a warehouse stock level I want to get the value at the beginning/end of the period, even if it is 0.

Thanks

Fabiano

  • Hi Fabiano, thank you for sharing this idea and the example. Would you be able to share more context on how these functions are being used? Were you able to try to get the desired solution through the use of selections?

Eg: If you select 12 months, and your stock is still June, with this function, the value in Dec is shown as the month without data not July based on this function.

  • @Monisha Jain there is a lot of similar request : the main issue is that board does not provide native and easy to use time function called "last month member of the selection" it is useful for stock but also do some financial closing analysis (eg in your select for dataview, you have 6 month member selected to have some history but then you want to make also specific analysis only on the last moth selected which correspond to your closing month where analysts have to make a lot of analysis)

  • @Monisha Jain Also for us the last value function including zero would be useful.

eg. 1) we have different Dashboards selecting per default all YTD Periods - for financial and other KPI you want the data cumulated. On the screen there is a possibility for user to select months - so to individually aggregate results also for quarters or Months with summer holidays.

But there are different KPI that you cannot cumulate, like FTE. Now I have the setting with show last value of selected months. But when a cost center has a zero at last month selected, the function shows not the right value.

eg 2.) we sometimes compare the value of the last month end closing - month with the average cost of the YTD. Then, when value of the last month with month-end closing is 0, this comparison does not work with the last value function.

    Best regards

Thank you Julien and Manuela for sharing.

We appreciate the time and effort you put into crafting your suggestion, and we now understand the need of this solution. We have accepted this Idea to be part of our backlog since the product interview done with @Julien CARDON along with Fabrizio and Andrea.

We are evaluating the feasibility of adding it to the development roadmap.

We encourage you to continue submitting your ideas and suggestions in the future, as we are always open to hearing new perspectives and feedback.
