Level 200, Module 205: Sales Planning Procedure

ACT - Sales Data Load Data Model Procedure

Step: 4 Select "CALCULATION DOMAIN" and in the Extend calculation on new tuple for all members of section, select: "Country" and "Timestamp".

Why are we extending the calculation? I am aware that it will open the dense cube dimension and use every cell while performing the calculation.
What will happen if we don't do it?

    Hi Ravi,

Please be aware that the dense/sparse structure does not have an impact on the calculation domain of the dataflows because the dataflow works only on the existing combination of the calculation domain.

However the structure of the cube can potentially influence the execution time of the dataflow.

The explanation about the extend option is given in our manual and is the following: The "Extend calculation on new tuples for all members of" option expands the calculation domain by evaluating also the combinations that are zero in the associated Layout for all members of a given set of Entities of the target Cube.

Indeed, since the combination of the "UTIL - DF - Timestamp" (target cube) is zero, you have to expand the calculation to get it open for writing.

Please refer to our manual if you need further information on this topic.

    Regards,

    Tommaso

    Thanks,

Now I have a better understanding of how the process is working.
