Accessibility Requirements according to EN 301 549 (European Directive)

According to the European Directive EN 301 549, we are obliged to meet Accessibility Requirements for people with limited or without vision as well as for people without perception of color.

In general, software and web applications shall be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. Those criteria are specified in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/#intro

For example, a web application has to have text alternatives for non-text content in order to be perceivable.

Here's my question: Is there any kind of feedback from BOARD to those guidelines? Are there any measures to improve the accessibility or some kind of cataloque with answers to the success criteria in the guidelines?

Thanks for your help!

Hi @Sarah Moll, thank you for asking!

The current Board roadmap targets WCAG 2.1 level AA compliance by July 2025 for the relevant areas of the Board platform. All areas of the platform are under review and may be modified to meet compliance, or excluded / assigned a lower priority due to technology limitations (which would require further modification and upgrades), component purpose (components that do not have a direct impact on user interaction or content consumption), or low usage vs. cost/benefit which makes full compliance difficult to achieve.

Board’s current priority is on areas that can have a substantial impact on the user experience and align them with the needs and priorities of the target audience, less exceptions or other constraints.

Hope this answer helps give you clarity on Board's current perspective!

  • Dear Product Management,

thank you so much for your reply! I appreciate the effort you put in meeting compliance with the guidelines.

Besides the perspective, do you also have a summary, catalogue or some kind of document which requirements are fulfilled right now by the latest board version?

    Thank you in advance!
