Level 300: Module 303 - Functional Test: Question 1

I cannot figure out why my April 2023 sales are not calculating. As a result, I cannot determine the correct answer for question 1 in the functional test.

Please help.

  • Hi Crystal,

Based on just these two screenshots alone, I am wondering if the issue has to do with your settings for your months in the Administration → Planning Months page. Can you go back to that part of the lesson and retrace your steps?

  • Hi Crystal,

This is what my Administration - Planning Months page looks like.

  • Hi Crystal,

Okay, that screen does look like mine. Did you click "Initialize Planning" and go through that entire procedure? If so, can you share a screenshot of what that procedure's steps look like?

  • Below is the data model PLN - Initialize Planning procedure.

  • Hi Crystal,

I can't quite tell from this screenshot, but did you use the block references and time functions inside of the data flows?

For example in the Data Flow Step #7, do you have Previous Year shown?

    Crystal Zhao

  • I believe I have all the block references correct.

    Group Budget:

Step 7: block a (ACT-DF-Sales LC) block reference Previous Year

Step 8: block a (ACT-DF-Expenses LC) block reference Previous Year

Step 10: block a no block reference

    Group Forecast:

Step 16: block a no block reference

Step 18: block a no block reference

Step 19: block a no block reference

    Step 21: block a (PLN-DF-Sales LC) block reference Version=Budget

    Step 22: block a (PLN-DF-Expenses LC) block reference Version=Budget

    Thanks,

    Crystal

  • Hi Crystal,

Oh, I should have asked first: when you started 300, did you create a new training environment or are you using the same one from your 200? It's possible that your data might be different because you're supposed to create a new training environment with each Level.

  • I created a new training environment using the link within the 300 training, in the 301 lesson.

  • Hi Crystal,

Thanks for confirming. I think I have one more hunch what might be missing. Is "Version" checked as an extension on that Step 7?

If you do change it, you'll have to re-click the Initialize Planning button too and then the numbers should show up.

  • Version is selected within the Calculation Domain of step 7.

  • Hi Crystal,

Hmm, I'm not seeing any other differences then in our procedure, so I wonder if the underlying data might not be right. When you were at Step 3 in the build to validate the P&L Data, did everything look right?

  • Everything matched up, in that step.

  • Hi Crystal,

Okay, maybe it might help to see if the data from the PY Actuals that is flowing into CY matches.

Can you just make a new screen and just name it "Test" or something, then create a data view that looks like this:

I just want to see if there is a data issue that happens before this flow even happens.

  • Hi Crystal,

Another thing to check: are all of your relationships mapped? Can you check this screen too to see if there are any errors?

It should be blank like this. I don't think that there are any new relationships at this part of the lesson yet, but I just want to rule it out.

    Crystal Zhao

  • Hi Crystal,

I built the "Test" screen, and the data is flowing. See below.

And my relationships do not have any errors.

  • Hi Crystal,

Thanks for your patience as we keep trying to figure out what's missing here. I have one more idea: in the first step of the procedure with the IF/THEN, did you apply the Selection to "Version Status?"

    Crystal Zhao

  • Hi Crystal,

Yes, I have Version Status: Data Entry - Data Entry selected.

  • Hi Crystal,

Please advise if there is something else I can try, as I am still not able to get passed the functional test.

  • Hi Crystal,

Apologies, I have been out of office. Unfortunately I do not see anything else that looks different from my model, so at this point I can only recommend just going back through the build step by step for that module.

  • I have gone back through it 3 times already. Resetting and restarting my instance twice but get the same results.

  • Can you tell me if all my data readers are setup up correctly?

  • Or could this be the issue? In the configure layout screen, entity Version and entity Version Status are listed under separate Utility headers.

  • I was able to figure out the issue. Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Crystal,

No, the headers for the Utility wouldn't have caused the issue.

I'm happy to hear that you got it working though! Can you tell us what ultimately was the problem in case anybody else runs into it too?
