UserCreated.log file got replaced with and error file in on-prem version

Question

Hi All,

we are working on a requirement where we need UserCreated.log and UserRemoved.log files while loading these two files into two different cubes via two different data readers. we found an error [new item found] error by the data reader which is using for UserCreated.log files

Due to this error, now our previous created members log are cleared in that file and the only error message got remained in that file. Additionally, we are not seeing the UserCreated.log file. we seeing a new file where it has only error message with naming of UserCreated.LOG

Now we need our previous users creation logs also, Can anyone help me how to retrieve those logs.

Hi Vanam, the error file is only created if you have the Log File option ticked on the Data Reader or the procedure Text File Data Reader step, Board takes the name of the file you're trying to load (excluding file extension) and creates a .log file with the same name, unfortunately that does mean that you shouldn't try and use logging when loading a .log file since, as you've discovered, that can mean it gets overwritten. Once you've overwritten the log file I think it's unlikely you'll retrieve what you've lost, but Board will start writing to the new .log file from that point on, so in this case any subsequent member creation will result in new lines being created in that file.

Thank you for your response, I think windows tools for retrieving is also might not be work. However, I have another query.

If any data reader fails to load the new item which is discarded item then the error file will be created right.

Is there any possibility that error file can be replaced with existing source log file?

Hi Vanam, are you saying the actual log file got overwritten, as in the physical text file was overwritten on the server? If so the only way you'd be able to retrieve that would be if you either have backups taken of that server possibly which you could retrieve it from, or possibly via using one of the Windows tools for retrieving deleted files, although if it was overwritten rather than deleted I'm not too sure whether those would still work.
