It started out so promising!
After I "tortured" myself with porting some applications from #B10.5 to #B11 for quite some time now, I come to the well-known wisdom: "Never change a runnnig System!" or, as always said in Apple circles: "Never buy Revision 1".
Okay, there are some things that are already working to an at least sufficient degree. I also think that the approach taken here is basically "okay". But nothing more.
Unfortunately, many functions are still "buggy". Cubes disappear, procedures have to be converted very cumbersome, I can't find a debugger anywhere (could also be my fault!), NEXEL functions don't do what they did before, and so on!
I could continue the enumeration almost endlessly! In fact, it actually boils down to having to completely rebuild my applications! That's nice for all consultants. For me it is a catastrophe. What a shame!
Besides, I am very surprised that the users are almost left alone during the changeover. Beside the RELEASE info and some USER postings here in the forum nothing (!!) comes from BOARD!
No online help! No support worth mentioning in the forum! Nothing! Now I also have to buy a master license to test the move to B11! This sucks a lot!
Yes, right! We are not talking about a small update here, but about a release change, which is really full of pitfalls!
Especially in support, enormous potentials are wasted and I feel increasingly left alone as a user.
And now, from my point of view, the really annoying one is:
Apparently the B10.5 WEB Client is not being worked on any further. (You could use it to at least change the capsule BEFORE you dare to access the database.) Is that really the case?
Here are a few examples which are also reported in the support:
COPY&PASTE in Dataview: No (works in B11).
NEXEL: No (works limited in B11).
DRILLDOWN ERROR (to Excel): still present (Works in B11).
COLOR FORMATS in Treeview: desaturated colors are still transparent (does not work in B11 either!).
FIGURES in the graphics: Still wrong (Works in B11).
I don't understand how you can neglect the debugging in B10.5, although the majority of users certainly haven't switched to B11 yet (among other things for the reasons mentioned above).
Until recently, I recommended Board as a great solution, but now I'm seriously thinking about how this could go on!
Enough time wasted with the release change!
More than enough annoyed about it!
I continue to work with the "old" board client to create my applications and accept that everything stays as it is!

Hi Dirk,
I don't know why you are saying "Apparently the B10.5 WEB Client is not being worked on any further." cause we'll have a new 10.5 version very shortly, which includes most of the points you have addressed. It wasn't possible to include all features we have in Win Client (which was developed during the last 10 years) in the first release. For this we tried to identified the most important features and try to close the gap with every new version.
About the Procedure Debugging. Yes it's not included yet (and won't be included in the next release), but you can easily debug a procedure also without the debugger (we also had to do this, when we didnt had the debugger in Win Client).
Furthermore for obvious problems/issues we strongly suggest to create a Ticket in our helpdesk, cause the idea of the community is to be a user community (and not a different place to provide Support by Board)

Björn

Hello Björn Reuber,
first of all many thanks for your quick answer!
With the information to be read from it you have helped me a lot in any case!
In the end it was important for me to express my latent "displeasure" at this point! For me as a developer it is important to know which features come at which time. And at the end of the day, my comments can also be traced back to the fact that I'm sitting here between tree and bark and can't judge what comes next. I also have (internal) customers and have to communicate to them what works and what doesn't!
For me it looked as if all efforts would be put into the development of B11 (which I can of course also understand in parts!).
That's why it would be nice and would also avoid many questions and misunderstandings if a user gets information about which changes and adjustments are published at which time and which changes in content result for the user or developer!
This does not have to happen down to the last detail, but at least a rough outline would help a lot.
That is not to be understood as criticism but rather as a suggestion, perhaps also as a wish from my side.
Of course I will continue to follow your advice to use the support. My requests have always been answered quickly and competently.
GreetingsDirk

Just to share my opinion
Generally speaking, and as already happened in the past, the main problem is that Board does not inform properly users community.
Example: Bjorn said that a new B105 release is coming out. But who knows this ?
And,as expected , migration to B11 seems more time wasting then announced / expected. And this could be not so appreciated in may cases. In my opinion Board should provide free (or at very limited price) consultancy / support days for not-added value activities related to version upgrades.
I'm still working with the client, version 10.1.2.
It works well. users are very satisfied. Board is gloablly a good product, in my opinion at 1st place as flexability at all levels. It's a pity not having a proper support in its evolution. For sure I'll evaulate migration to B105 or B11 not before one year.
best regards
Daniele
