How to create a Square Metre Symbol

For me, understanding how to insert a superscript 2 for m² was one of those little niggly things which drags on and on because 'I will google it at some point, but just haven't gotten round to it yet'.  Well, I finally got round to it and thought I'd share.

  1. Type m2
  2. Highlight the 2
  3. Press and hold the [Alt] key then type the figures 0178 - you must use numeric keypad.
  4. you should now have turned m2 into m²

    Hi,

with a german Keyboard Layout this is pretty easy, just use ALT+CTRL+2, cause this is the third "function" of the key, so it's 2 , or " on shift+2 or ² on ALT+CTRL+2, maybe there is also this kind of function on different keyboard layouts

    regards

    Björn

  • Good point Björn, thank you.

It never occurred to me that this was a UK layout keyboard issue.  I'll be mindful of that for future posts.
