'Calendar' function
Can anyone in the Community point me to where can I find more information on the use of the 'Calendar' function? The help.board link doesn't mention it at all, and the 10.1 release notes just say you can use a custom calendar...but they don't actually discuss what this Calendar option is used for.
Any help appreciated.

Hi,
are you speaking about the Calender Object, or the Custom Calender Feature introduced with BOARD 10.1?

Hi Björn Reuber, sorry a bit confusing, I meant the custom calendar in the Dataview layout.

Hi,
this answer is pretty easy
With Calender in DataView you can choose, which calender is used for time functions. You can choose a custom calender (if defined) or a standard calender.
With standard Calender board is comparing (with using Previous Year) a Date with the exact date from the previous year, so its comparing thee 17.9.2018 (a Monday) with 17.9.2017 (a Sunday), so this might not make any sense in some cases. If you choose the option "Week" in Calender board will compare the 1st working day of week 38 in 2018 with the first working day of week 38 in 2017 (18.09.2017) (CubeValue is Date in Y.YYYM.MDD format):
For both Options there are some hints:
a) "Normal" Previous year function: Some years have a 29.02., this can't be compared to any other day (cause no day to compare exist in the next years)
--> Value 20200229 is missing in Previous year (cause in 2021 there is no 29.2.)
b) by Week compare: Some Years have 52 weeks, some have 53. So if you compare a year with 53 weeks, with a year with 52 weeks no day exists
Furthermore you can use a custom calender (on a custom time entity). So you are able to use saisonality and compare your spring business in 2018 (maybe from Feb-April) with your Spring Business from 2017 (maybe from March-May)
Regards
Björn
