dataview algorithm block: how to set summary mode to 'no total'?

Hello,

I am wondering how to hide the total value in a dataview for a block of type algorithm.

This is actually possible for a block of type cube:

but i don't see it for a block of type algorithm:

Do i oversee some options in the block settings within the layout window ?
as a workaround, i play with foreground and background colors outside of the layout (in block format

, set foreground color to transparent for Totals and Grand Totals

) to hide the totals, but 👎️it doesn't do anything, my grand total has still a black foreground color for block b….

Why is the transparency on foreground color not working here?
Is it a known issue?
How do other users solve this?
should i create a new idea in the community which suggests to add the "no total" summary for algorithm blocks?

Hi Arnaud, I've never found a good solution to this problem however what I can recommend is you add the entity that is your row to the layout, you then modify your algorithm to check the entity block:

IF(ENTITY>1, 0, original algorithm)

then set your summary total to calculated

This will mean that on all your rows the entity count will show 1 and on the total row it will show total count of entity under that group.

It's not perfect but it works (unless you have a lot of quick layout usage)

I don't understand it really. When i put the "by row entity" as a block layout entity, its text is displayed again. So the IF(ENTITY>1 condition cannot be tested.

How do you come to entity count will show 1 ?

Now i understand what you mean. You mean the text length of the entity shown as a block layout, right?

This algorithm works (as a workaround): IF(len(ENTITY)>1, original algorithm, 0)

you can see the result in the last column and compare to the 2nd column (block b with original algorithm):

and here the block d: the members of the ByRow Entity present as block c has more than one character, except for the total column where len() doesn't work. One cannot "sums" text data.

And obviously, "Hide zeros" must be ticked, otherwise the value 0 is shown in the total row.

You can also just use an algorithm block set with a static value of 1 with the Total set to Sum, it will display 1 for detail rows and >1 for the total row, only catch would be if there was only one detail row the total would still be 1, other than that it allows you to distinguish between the detail and total rows though.
