It would be very useful to have a detail by None option.  Sometimes you need to have an entity on the column and you want other blocks to show as just a single column.  You can achieve something like this now having a dummy entity at the top of a hierarchy with only a single member that you can detail by with but this solution is not always possible, messy, and sometimes requires using a custom time entity which are limited to only a few being available.
