Tree map: Colours

Whilst using a tree map, I have set an alert from red to green red if its lower than 0 and green for above however the smaller the number (below 0) the lighter shade of red but the closer to 0 the stronger the shade of red... This seems counter intuitive to me, anyone have any ideas around this?
