Total by doesn't work

Hi there,

I try to create a data block by country with the Total By setting.

Example for Belgium 2 records

Total in block C is 79.175

Total by Country block d shows millions.

example for Denmark 1 record

Totals aren't matching

Any idea why?

    Hi @Maik Burghardt ,

normally, the "Total by" will aggregate values on a higher level than the level of the row-entity - and that's the same in your case.
Can you say where the unexpected value comes from, i.e. which numbers would have to be added to get it?

    Best,
    Helmut

Thank you Helmut. It worked. I added year into column and then added Total By Year.

  • Hi Helmut,

i expected to see in rows for Belgium 79175 for Denmark 52415.

meaning the total for the country.

    Hi @Maik Burghardt ,

one additional remark: the "Total by" will sum up the data without considering the entity by column (if any at all)—it will be a sum "over all".

So, if—for example—your data is displayed by year, you'd need to add the entity "Year" to the "Total by".

    Consider this example:

    Kind regards,

    Hi @Maik Burghardt ,

just to make it a bit more clear.

Think of the "Total by" configuration as if you were configuring the dimensions of an aggregated cube. This cube should not just have the country dimension—you might want to at least add the budget scenario and version.

    Best,
    Helmut
