An efficient data model in Board is crucial for project success, especially when tailored to customer needs. Analyzing the project's requirements will help you pick a model layout that strikes a good balance between power and simplicity. For example, if suitable in the customer's context, you could opt for a KPI dimension over multiple cubes to avoid cube proliferation. This approach can help enhance performance while aligning with customer objectives. DataView trigger procedures may impact speed, so consider them. Thoughtful structure choices lead to customer-focused solutions.

One of my favourite features are the virtual cubes in procedures and the fact that you can use them for ‘Select Entity based on’ and also ‘IF-THEN-ELSE’.
Yes, it takes some time and thought, but these things really help in developing faster and more understandable data flows and procedures.

Integrating Board with Microsoft Teams through the use of REST APIs via the REST API Procedure step to send messages and notifications is a powerful way to enhance communication and streamline workflows.

By leveraging this integration, organizations can ensure that critical information is promptly shared with relevant stakeholders, improving responsiveness and collaboration.

The messages and notifications can also be used to trigger actions in Board, such as an approval or rejection of a submitted budget plan, directly out of Microsoft Teams.

The possibility to send messages and notifications via Microsoft Teams which can also include data ultimately supports more informed decision-making and efficient business operations.

The ability and freedom to create our own entities and relationships has been useful to me when our ERP system does not contain the categories needed for specific reporting.

Recently I implemented a drop-down list with specific suggestions for different members of an entity.

First you make a Data View with an "Entity 1" by row and you place a "Cube 1". In my case, a text cube having Entity 1 as dimension.

Then you create an "Entity 2" which regroups all suggestions you wish to have in all drop-down lists.

After, you create a "Cube 2" and use both Entity 1 and 2 as dimensions, and you fill cells with the values you wanna display for each member of the Entity 1.

You're almost good to go. All you have to do is to use Cube 2 as suggested value in the "Data Entry" configuration inside your Data view!

We recently implemented an automated process that imports the lowest entity in our organizational structure from SAP. Following this, a notification is sent by Board prompting the completion of the remaining entities in the tree to a specific user.

Once completed, the organizational structure is sent to our Data Warehouse, ensuring that Power BI, among other tools, utilizes the same hierarchical structure

This eliminates the need for manually maintaining and importing Excel files by one of our admins.

It's a bid "old school" nowadays but RDB cube are a great way to exchange live data - at a small scale- allowing you to filter out or request data from your source or parameterize a externally generated dataset directly from Board.

An amazing tip in my opinion is the ability to experiment with the technologically most bleeding edge capabilities that make life much easier for everyone in & around Board through automations & innovative market leading offerings. A few that I'd like to mention is:

1. System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) - this was helpful in establishing a quick way to onboard new set of users along with the specific roles from an external platform into Board directly

2. R Calculation - Uses R DataFrames to enter computed data into Board cubes through DataReaders. This enables a faster calculation and takes some resourcing challenges off of Board's servers.

3. Identity Provider section - This has immense implications in terms of easing up the configuration for authenticating users to gain access to a Board Applications. The UI is intuitive & easy to understand. The setup is simple for almost all prevalent external identity providers within the industry

One of the things I really appreciate about Board is how it allows me to import data from multiple sources simultaneously at the procedure level. Whether it's TXT, CSV, SQL, APIs, or SAP, I can easily bring all this data together in one procedure. This feature has been a game-changer for me, as it saves a lot of time and effort by eliminating the need for manual data consolidation which ultimately leads to faster and more insightful analysis.
